A conceptual product view. Values are illustrative and do not represent customer data or a financial forecast.

Data

What can enter the normalized layer.

Eligible institution and account metadata
Supported balance fields
Pending and finalized transactions
Supported recurring transaction streams

Authorization

Connection authority stays explicit.

Plaid Link handles institution authentication. OwnCents exchanges and encrypts access tokens on the server; access tokens and institution credentials are never returned to the browser.

Security

Sensitive material stays server-side.

Sensitive connection actions use server-side workspace checks and step-up MFA. Tokens are encrypted, webhook signatures are verified, and synchronization is bounded and leased.

What it does

  • Connect supported institutions
  • Synchronize supported financial records
  • Normalize provider fields into canonical OwnCents models

What it does not do

  • Receive online banking passwords
  • Initiate ACH, wire, or card payments
  • Guarantee institution uptime or data completeness

Setup

A short, reviewable connection flow.

  1. 01

Open Plaid Link from an authorized workspace.

  2. 02

    Authenticate with an eligible institution.

  3. 03

    Choose supported accounts.

  4. 04

Allow the bounded server-side sync to normalize records.

Important limitation: Institution coverage, provider fields, balances, and refresh timing vary. OwnCents never uses Plaid to initiate or distribute payments.

FAQ

Questions about Plaid.

Who handles institution login?
Plaid Link handles the institution authentication experience; OwnCents does not receive the online banking password.
How quickly does data refresh?
Timing depends on Plaid and the institution, so time-sensitive data should be confirmed at the source.
Can Plaid data post to the ledger automatically?
No. Normalized operating data and controlled accounting posting are separate workflows.
