FAQ
Straight answers.
What OwnCents does, what it doesn't, and what it costs.
Product
- What is OwnCents?
- OwnCents is a financial operating system for startups and growing companies. It connects supported financial data, planning, controlled accounting workflows, and an AI CFO in one workspace.
- Is this a replacement for my accountant?
- No. OwnCents helps you understand and operate your finances day to day. It does not file your taxes, produce statutory accounts, or provide accounting, legal, or investment advice. Keep your accountant.
- What is the AI CFO?
- It's an analysis workspace over your own financial data. You ask a question in plain language, and it works through your figures to produce an answer with the numbers it used and a recommended next step — so you can check its reasoning rather than take it on faith.
- Can it be wrong?
- Yes. Outputs are generated analysis and forecasts, not guarantees. Forecasts are projections based on your historical data and assumptions, and real outcomes will differ. Always review figures before acting on them, especially for anything material.
- Does it take actions on my behalf without asking?
- No. Where OwnCents can draft something — such as a payment reminder — it prepares it for your review. You approve before anything is sent.
Data and integrations
- What can I connect today?
- Plaid can sync supported bank accounts, balances, transactions, and recurring streams. Stripe can sync supported charges, subscriptions, customers, and invoices. QuickBooks support is currently limited to eligible bank and credit-card account balances. Other connections depend on configured provider access and their explicitly listed capabilities.
- Why do you distinguish 'syncing' from 'connect only'?
- Because authorization does not prove that every provider record is available. Each published integration page lists the supported data scope and its current limitations.
- Can I use OwnCents without connecting anything?
- Yes. The public demo uses fixed sample data, and supported imports can be reviewed separately. Live operating views depend on the financial data your workspace is authorized to provide.
- Who can see my workspace data?
- Only members you invite. Every record is scoped to your workspace, access is determined by the role you assign each member, and those checks are enforced on the server.
Security
- How is my data protected?
- OwnCents uses Firebase Authentication, server-side token and permission checks, workspace and Legal Entity boundaries, protected provider credentials, and audit-aware financial workflows. See the Security page for the current evidence-based scope.
- Are you SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certified?
- No approved SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA, or CASA status is currently published. The Security page shows the current evidence-based control scope and fail-closed compliance publication policy.
- Do you store my banking passwords?
- Plaid Link handles eligible institution authentication, so OwnCents does not receive online banking passwords. Other published integrations use their configured provider authorization flow, with credentials kept server-side. OwnCents authentication is handled by Firebase.
Billing
- Is there a free plan?
- No. OwnCents is paid on every tier. Eligible paid plans include a 7-day trial so you can evaluate it with your own data first.
- How much does it cost?
- Starter is $29 per month, Growth is $99 per month, and Scale is $299 per month. Annual billing saves 20%. Enterprise is priced per organization.
- What happens when the trial ends?
- Your chosen plan begins automatically unless you cancel first. You can cancel at any time during the trial from billing settings.
- Do you offer refunds?
- Subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by applicable law. Use the trial to evaluate the product before committing.
- Can I cancel at any time?
- Yes. You can cancel from billing settings. Your access continues until the end of the period you've already paid for.
