Product story

Bank connections data flow

Evidence linked
A conceptual product view. Values are illustrative and do not represent customer data or a financial forecast.

Data

What can enter the normalized layer.

Eligible account identity and type
Available and current balance fields where supplied
Pending and finalized transaction activity
Supported recurring-stream context

Authorization

Connection authority stays explicit.

A user starts Plaid Link and authenticates directly with the eligible financial institution. OwnCents receives provider tokens server-side, encrypts them, and never receives the user's online banking password.

Security

Sensitive material stays server-side.

Connections use server-side token handling, workspace-scoped authorization, step-up controls for sensitive connection actions, and verified webhook processing.

What it does

  • Normalize supported financial data
  • Show account and cash context
  • Sync pending and finalized activity

What it does not do

  • Initiate or schedule bank payments
  • Guarantee institution coverage or refresh timing
  • Treat provider labels as posted accounting

Setup

A short, reviewable connection flow.

  1. 01

    Choose to connect a bank.

  2. 02

Complete the institution flow in Plaid Link.

  3. 03

    Select eligible accounts.

  4. 04

Review normalized data after the first sync.

Important limitation: Institution support, fields, and refresh timing vary. Bank data is operating evidence and must be mapped and posted through separate accounting controls when accounting authority is required.
